I'm Making a Horror Film . . .I Hope. . .

So . . . writing two novels, short stories, and taking a 10-week writing course just wasn't enough. I went and wrote a script with another writer friend and that script found its way to Los Angeles. It's now in the hands of a very capable producer who is building a cast and crew.
The name of the film is The Pet Sitter. For any movie lovers out there, The Pet Sitter is a cross between John Wick and Home Alone with a female lead, a mischievous cat, and lots of blood and popcorn. It's a short horror-comedy that's only thirteen minutes long.
It's also my homage to some of the horror films I grew up watching. Especially the ones with strong female characters. Those were the films that impressed me the most as a young girl growing up in the 70's and 80's.
All I need now is approximately $10,000.00 to get the movie made.
*Heavy sigh*
As I said to my producer, "it's just like writing a book. It all comes down to time and money." We thought we had the time to get the film made by May 1st. That's the deadline for the annual Final Frame Short Film contest that takes place every year during StokerCon. StokerCon is the yearly conference for horror writers. My dream is to get a film into that contest and The Pet Sitter was supposed to be that film.
It looks like we will miss the May 1st deadline. BUT. . .I'm excited nonetheless because now we will have more time to do the story justice and enter it into the film contest next year.
This little film is chock full of special make-up effects, stunt work, and cat wrangling. It's not the kind of thing you can just film in a day with a phone camera. I trust my producer, she's done some great work, and I know she's diligently finding the right cast and getting them trained by some of the best stunt people in the industry. So, I'm looking forward to the future.
There's still the need to find the money. Which I am working on. If you are interested in helping, too--or just curious about the film and why I'm making it--check out my crowdfunding campaign at GoFundMe.
I'll keep posting updates so watch this space!
What artistic endeavor have you taken on for the shear love of it? Let me know in the comments and we can celebrate--or commiserate-- together.
